Psystar challenging Apple's EULA Empty Psystar challenging Apple's EULA

Post by blade Mon Apr 14, 2008 11:15 pm

InformationWeek spoke with an employee of Psystar about their offering of a computer that runs Mac OS X. He stated that they plan to challenge Apple's EULA, and they believe they will win in court (if it comes to that).

The EULA is not the law, and Psystar states that they have not broken the law.

it stands for "End-user License agreement", which is basically a software license agreement.

in other words, when you install 10.5, you are agreeing to apple's terms, or rules. if you don't agree, then you can't install the software.

basically. i think they changed the name from "openMac" to "openComputer", since it was too close to "Mac".

I dont either. The Open mac looks like crap and the hardware is very low quality and it would ruin the Mac name

well, competition is always good. now the parts might not be the best, but they are similar to what apple uses. maybe not the actual outside case.

It's really hard to decide wether to root for this company, or hope it fails. On one hand, yes, competition is good. But, too much competition is not. Anyoine remember the clones of the 90's? They nearly killed Apple, because they were superior in every way to a real Mac. And I think that recently, Apple has seriously let they're quality slip, and the prices obviously aren't going down. If Psystar wins, Apple had better up their quality and drop the prices, because there is a chance they might be screwed if they don't.

you make a valid point. what i'd like to see is Psystar do well, then Apple buy them out, and maybe take the good things from Psystar and use them, like a cheaper mac. but they must up the quality also

the more i think about this, the more i think that i wouldn't like this to happen. i mean, competition is good, but what separates apple from others is that they make both software and hardware
