    Apple announced today that they had sold over 5 billion songs on iTunes. According to data from the NPD, iTunes remains the number one music retailer in the US and features the largest music catalog with over eight million songs.

    Apple also reveals that customers are buying and renting over 50,000 movies every day making iTunes the most popular online movie store as well. iTunes now houses over 20,000 TV episodes and over 2,000 films including over 350 in high definition.

    Apple first reported it had become the number one music retailer in the U.S. in April.

    no, it's not pure profit. most of the money goes to the artists and stuff. but still, 5 billion songs is amazing though.

    That sure is a lot of songs though. But I'm afraid Apple is going to have a monopoly in the music market soon. That's not a good thing, Apple needs competition to get them to strive to come up with better products.

    Well I am pretty sure the percent is pretty good.

    Yeah, they might have one, but it seems there are still alot of competitors. I mean, they dont really compare that good to apple products but people are still buying those brands at least some of the time.

    apple has always said that they don't make much from the music store.

    and they do have some competition - Amazon has a music store i believe, and i think there are a few others
